Ah, Spring Break! The time of year when the young adults in America throw caution to the wind and PARTY with wild abandon! This tradition has been going on for decades. It used to be just Florida and California, but now the Caribbean Islands get their fair share of Spring Breakers. Ya Mon.   Whether it’s Daytona Beach, Malibu, Jamaica or Cancun, you will have a great time if you come through the experience unscathed. If you are in college or the parent of a college student, pick up a copy of “Where the Boys Are”. It’s a pop culture movie from the 60’s that is mostly hilarious, but has some tragedy thrown in. It’s worth a look. It shows what fun, zany times a bunch kids can have when they let loose and want nothing but love and a sandy beach. It’s good to have a sweet time where ever you end up this year. And we want everyone who will be traveling to exotic destinations, here or abroad, to have a fun but safe time. Here are some tips to help you have the time of your life.

Before You Leave:

Make sure you lock all your doors and windows in your car and apartment before you go. – Let’s not make it easy for someone to steal from you.

Tell someone like your mom, a neighbor or a close friend that you’ll be gone, where you are staying and put that person’s info in your wallet- just in case.

Make sure to let the post office know to hold your mail or arrange for someone to pick it up for you. Piled up mail and newspapers are a sure sign you are gone!

Unplug all your electrical devices throughout your home to prevent electrical fires.

Set your alarm system. The best defense!

Don’t post on Facebook or Twitter until you come home. It’s easier than you think for thieves to figure out all the details and find your house.

While You’re Away:

Don’t hitch hike, call UBER.

Make a deal with someone in your group to be your buddy. That means -do not leave without them or let them leave without you, even if you get lucky!

Keep some ID on you, especially at the beach.

Wear sunscreen. Really.

Put an ICE (In Case of Emergency) contact in your phone.

Have an emergency fund to get you out of a jam, not because you run out of beer.

If you go to a foreign country, protect your passport.

A foreign accent doesn’t make someone trustworthy or nice, just foreign.

Only party with friends you trust, not strangers you just met.

Have a great time. You deserve it. You’ve worked hard, put up with snow storms and demanding schedules. Spring fever is the perfect time to kick up your heals and explore a new place. Just be smart about it. You can sing “Wasted Away Again in Margaretville, but you don’t have to live it. If you follow our tips, you will have a fun and safe time and will return to everything right where you left it. Ya Mon!
